Pat Brooks, RHIA, Sr. Technical Advisor at the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) announced today during this week’s ICD-10 Summit that the ICD-9 code freeze, orginally scheduled for October, 1 2014 will be extended one year pending the proposed delay of ICD-10 goes into effect. This means that if the proposed delay goes into effect, the next code updated will be scheduled for October 1, 2015, one year after the proposed ICD-10 delay date.
Brooks states, “requests for new diseases and technologies will continue to be addressed throughout the code freeze.” It has been reported that more than 600 professionals in attendance at this week’s ICD-10 Summit. Stay tuned for key takeaways from this ICD-10 Summit will be posted next week.
